WILL INDIA BECOME A SUPER POWER?

I was thinking about writing a new blog from past few days. And lots of topics were on my mind, but somehow I could not pen it. Few of my friends and colleagues were reminding me to write a blog. When I sat today to write a blog, I thought of few incidences occurred in past one week and I thought of this topic. Will India become a Super Power?

I attended a marriage function spread over three days and five venues with spend of few crore rupees. Believe me, it was a sheer waste of money. I met one of my associates who own an infra company. He told me that he is confident of getting a tender of few hundred crores where the actual work will cost 25 % of total tender cost. Knowing him well, I asked him why he had ventured in to this business. He answered if I won’t do this; someone else will do it so why not me. And he started persuading me to stop doing what I do now and get in to his business.

We all discuss about corrupt politicians. But I was surprised when someone who is very closely linked with politics told me few days back that the net worth of all politicians in India would be in excess of 2000 crores per day i.e. around 720000 crores per year or 150 billions dollars. Add another few hundred billion dollars of corruption at various other levels. By paying money, few rupees to few hundred crore rupees, he can get any work done at any level in India. His statement suggested that with this amount, India can repay its entire debt and will be a self sustained economy.

I had read an article which mentioned that half of our population is below poverty line and is deprived of basic necessities like food, clothing, water and sanitation. Where are we heading with all these disturbing facts and figures? Are we heading to become a super power or will we become a country of few hundred corrupt people who will rule 1.3 billion Indians? I was worried and frustrated at this shocking statistics. And suddenly I thought of hundreds of small incidences which I have heard, read and experienced in India.

I know a person who started sending 100 rupees every month 26 years ago to an NGO at Nagpur when his salary was 600 rupees. And he still sends 20 % of his monthly income. There are plenty of likeminded young and talented people who have left their flourishing corporate careers and joined different NGOs at 10 % of their past salaries. Besides, there are few hundred scientists, academicians, social workers and public servants who relentlessly work for betterment of our country at every level. There are few thousand entrepreneurs who are creating employment opportunities and wealth for every Indian in spite of harassment by government authorities. We have few lakh soldiers in Indian armed forces who protect us and our country from our enemies without any expectation.

Today, we are a nation of 130 crore people who love India. We take pride in being an Indian. And I have complete faith and confidence that these 130 crores will overpower few hundred corrupt people to transform India into a Super Power. And this will happen very soon.
