Walking stretches your mind and your soul. It is dynamic mind & body process which creates a sense of rhythm. (anitpromoters.com)

Benefits of brisk walking

Walking is one of the easiest ways to stay fit. You may have a busy life, but try and introduce physical activity in your life. A moderate dose of physical exercise for 30 minutes (if you can’t manage that much, even 15 minutes is okay to begin with) a day is enough to keep you healthy. This form of aerobic fitness can lift your mood, make you physically fit, and improve the quality of your life.

Before you start
Wear the right pair of walking shoes and comfortable clothes. Also remember to carry and drink water while you walk, to hydrate yourself. Walk for 15-20 minutes for the first three days, and then gradually increase the time. You can use a pedometer to count the steps you take.

Walk your way to a healthy heart

Walking can lower your cholesterol levels and decrease the risks for cardiovascular diseases. It can also strengthen your heart, muscles and lungs. A strong heart with an increased heart rate is able to carry more blood to the rest of your body. Brisk walking every day lets you burn up to 200 calories and reduces body fat.

Cuts your risk of hypertension and diabetes
According to a study, regular walking improves the BMI (body mass index) and blood pressure levels in people with diabetes. Allowing muscle movement leads to more use of glucose by the muscle cells. This also involves utilization of more insulin, which improves blood sugar levels. Low blood pressure levels can also protect against kidney failure, heart attack and stroke.

Reduces risks and effects of cancer

Research shows that in colon cancer, a speedy walk can give less time to the carcinogens present in the food to come in touch with the intestinal lining and reduce the risks of having cancer from the start itself. With improved blood circulation, walking brings in positive energy within the body and therefore lessens the side effects of chemotherapy.

Despite the several body changes during pregnancy, regular walking can benefit you in many ways. It can reduce fatigue and related pains, help lose weight easily, and lower risks of gestational diabetes. Walking can also prevent spontaneous abortions by lowering down the hormonal fluctuations which cause uterine contractions.

Walk for better sexual health
A regular habit of brisk walking can improve your performance in bed. Walking two miles a day boosts blood circulation which cuts down on the risk of impotency. You can be healthy and fit, and need not rely on medicines to keep your love life active.

With the long hot days, and short warm nights, many consider summer as the toughest time in the year. In many parts of the world, the heat from the sun makes it difficult for people to stay comfortably. (anitpromoters.com)

Protect your health during hazy summer days

WATERLOOREGIONHot, hazy weather has settled in the region and people are urged to protect their health during heat and smog alerts.

Daytime highs are expected to hover around the high 20s and even beyond 30 C for most days this week and high humidity will make it feel even hotter.

Region of Waterloo Public Health reminds people to be safe while being active and enjoying the outdoors in the summer, especially those at greater risk of health problems due to extreme heat, humidity and smog.

People at higher risk include seniors, infants and young children, people with chronic heart or lung conditions such as asthma and angina, people with chronic disabilities, people on certain medications who should consult with a pharmacist or doctor about activity, those exercising vigorously outdoors, and those who work outdoors. Pets are also susceptible to health problems associated with extreme heat.

Public Health offers these tips for avoiding heat-related illness: stay out of the hotsun and heat; limit activity to morning and evening; avoid strenuous outdoor physical activity; go to air-conditioned sites such as malls; take periodic cool baths or showers; drink lots of water and avoid drinks high in sugar, caffeine or alcohol that increase the body’s water loss; wear loose-fitting clothing that allows for sweat evaporation; check on friends and neighbours at risk; never leave children or pets unattended in a car.

During humidex and smog alerts, people should reschedule activities or take activities indoors in an air-conditioned area.

The Road Safety Cell’s Driver Test Branch is responsible for conducting the ‘Test of Knowledge’ and the ‘Test of Driving Competence’ for the issue of the Driving License. (anitpromoters.com)

To some extent, driving improves with age. Drivers ages 16 to 25 may be more aggressive and inexperienced, receiving more citations, and causing more accidents than other age groups. However, studies show that vision, hearing, reflexes, and cognitive abilities may deteriorate with age, and the proportion of people over age 75 who drive and are in accidents is comparable to young drivers. In addition, older drivers are more susceptible to injury. What a younger driver might consider a minor accident could result in an elder's injury or death.

It is best to be prepared and consider alternate means of transportation (buses, taxis, personal drivers, shuttle buses) before driving problems develop. Test the options out with a friend who already uses them to decide which meet your needs best.

At the same time, some simple steps may prolong one's time behind the wheel.
  • Schedule periodic eye exams, update prescription glasses, increase the brightness on the vehicle's instrument panel, keep the windshield and headlights clean, and replace faulty windshield wipers.
  • Choose a car with automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, and an easy-to-read instrument panel.
  • Reduce noise and distractions, e.g. limit conversations and turn down the radio and air conditioner or heater vents.

Useextra caution: Avoid driving in inclement weather, check traffic when changing lanes, look before backing up, and use signals, mirrors, and the horn. Plan ahead, e.g. take easier routes, avoid rush hours, and avoid driving in the dark.

Take a driving test to assess abilities, or take a course to sharpen skills and learn new strategies. Courses, such as the AARP's Driver Safety Program, may help an older person become a better driver, and it may qualify the driver for an insurance premium discount.

On the other hand, it may be time to make some significant changes if many of the following describe your driving:

  • You have trouble recognizing or observing traffic signs and signals. You do not hear emergency sirens.
  • Everyone else seems to drive too fast or too slow. Others might think you are driving at an inappropriate speed.

You have had some close calls recently. For example, do you need more time to make driving decisions or do your decisions seem to be poor ones afterwards? Do you misjudge gaps in traffic? Do some cars seem to "come out of nowhere" and surprise you? Do you get honked at more? Have you had several moving violations in the last three years?

Here are the tips on how you can identify a bonafide currency note and what you need to do if you find that you have been a victim of circumstance and received a counterfeit note. (anitpromoters.com)

How to identify fake Currency Notes

Counterfeit notes that are not easily identified sometimes drives us into tight corners. Not all of us have the ‘currency knowledge’ to find the difference, which can be known only after minute scrutiny. Find out how to identify fake notes here!

  • See if the note is crisp and thin. The notes are printed on optical fiber paper. Fake notes are printed on thick paper make of bamboo pulp. If it is a Xeroxed note the colour and print look faded.
  • Look for the ‘Intaglio” on the denomination i.e.1000,500,100,50 20 ,10 or 5 ( the embossed print that enables the blind to touch and know the denomination of the currency). The chemical’omran’ is used to print in ‘Intaglio’ which looks bright. Intaglio will be missing in counterfeit notes.
  • Look at the note against the light, for the fine and shining ‘security band’on the right side of ‘Intaglio’ look for the faint water mark
  • For a genuine currency note, the number panel will be regular and when scrutinized against ultra violet rays, the letters printed with fluorescent ink shine. For a fake note the security band will be rough and prominent Number panel will be irregular. The numbers are comparatively smaller as compared to the original notes.

  • Please do not respond to strangers asking for change for notes of higher denomination. Please always check notes of higher denomination while doing any transaction.
  • When conducting a large transaction take the other party to your bank where you will deposit the money. The bank usually uses a machine which checks the currency notes.

Developing healthy eating habits isn't as confusing or as restrictive as many people imagine. The first principle of a healthy diet is simply to eat a wide variety of foods. (anitpromoters.com)

10 Diet Hacks to Keep You Slim & Trim

  • Just say no to fruit juice. Juice is fruit with the fiber removed. Not to mention, most of them are packed with sugar. Opt for the real thing instead.
  • Stick to water. All of those sugary soft drinks are simply adding excess calories to your diet and to your waistline. Start drinking only water and a bit of tea and you could start seeing changes in your body very quickly. This is especially true if you’re a soft drink junkie.
  • Create a new good habit each day. Eating often becomes a habit rather than a way to nourish ourselves. To get out of bad eating habits, it’s easier to change one habit per day. I have recently started doing this and have found it to be extremely effective. On the first day I gave up honey on my oatmeal and on the second day I converted all of my snacks to fruits and vegetables.
  • Change your lifestyle. A diet is simply a way of eating. It’s a long-term commitment not a one-time event. Create permanent lifestyle changes. Good habits are the key to success when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight.
  • Get plenty of sleep. Your sleep time is an essential component to losing weight. Researchers have found evidence to show that better sleep habits are instrumental to the success of any weight loss plan.
  • Eat 5-6 small meals per day instead of 3 big meals. Keith Klein, World-renowned nutritionist and author of “Get Lean” is quoted as saying,
  • Don’t avoid all fat. Yes, I know it might sound like a strange suggestion when trying to lose weight, but it’s true. Our bodies need certain types of fats just to survive. They’re called essential fatty acids. You may have heard of them. They go by the name of Omegas 3, 6, and 9 and they are essential to a healthy diet.

  • Add some variety to your meals. The key to success is having options. Keep your mouth happy with a variety of different meal choices.
  • Get your Fiber. The inclusion of fiber into a well-balanced meal slows the digestion of the carbohydrates. This results in long-lasting energy instead of the short bursts of energy offered by simple carbohydrates.

  • Slow Down… If you are looking to lose a few pounds, then simply slow down. There are so many Americans who rush through their meals. When you rush through your meal, your body doesn’t have time to send your brain the signal that you’re full, which results in overeating. Take time to enjoy your food.

Why do I need land?
Put simply, land is space for you to put stuff so that other people can see it and interact with it. If you want to put stuff down that other people can see and interact with, then you will need land to put it on. The stuff you put down is up to you - it can be anything you own, make yourself or buy from someone else. The most common uses for land are houses, stores/malls, and 'public attractions' such as parks or places where special events happen. You can use SL just fine without ever owning land, however land does increase the number of things you can do by giving you a little space to call your own and use as you see fit. Land is where you can allow other Residents to interact with the contents of your imagination.
