The tallest building

Burj Khalifa, formerly called Burj Dubai, was formally inaugurated by His Highness, Sheikh Mohammad of Dubai on the of 4th of January, 2010. The Burj became the tallest building in the world officially in 2007 when it passed the height of Taipei 101 in Taiwan. Taipei 101 was the world's tallest structure prior to the Burj, however at 828m, the Burj far surpases any other skyscraper, including the Empire State, the World Trade Center, Malaysia's Petronas Towers and the Sears Tower in Chicago.

The skyscraper is surrounded by a beautiful man made park spread over 11 hectares, or 1.2 million sq ft. This will include water features, shrubbery, desert flowers, benches and a view of the beautiful Dubai Fountain.

The people of the Middle East, and particularly the United Arab Emirates, are incredibly proud of this new wonder of the world since it returns the location of the world's tallest man made structure to the Middle East. FOr over 4,000 years this was the Great Pyramid of Giza until its height was surpassed by the Lincoln Cathedral in England, in 1311. Many posters and flyers marketing the Burj Khalifa have invoked imagery of the Great Pyramids implying that the Middle East is regaining its ascendancy in engineering, science and prosperity.

Below are the main facts about the Burj Khalifa:
  • It has 200 storeys, of which about 165 are inhabitable.
  • The tower opens 1,325 days after excavation work started in 2004. It took 22 million man hours to complete construction.
  • The tower contains 330,000 cubic metres of concrete, 39,000 metric tonnes of reinforced steel, 103,000 square metres of glass and 15,500 square metres of embossed stainless steel.
  • The weight of the empty building is 500,000 tonnes.
  • Total built-up area is 526,760 square metres (5.67 million square feet), of which 171,870 square metres is residential and 27,870 square metres is office space.
  • The structure will host the highest observation deck, swimming pool, elevator, restaurant and fountain in the world.
  • There are 900 residences available in addition to the soon-to-open Armani hotel. Owner Emaar said 90 per cent of the building has been sold.
  • The building is covered by 24,348 cladding panels to help it withstand the summer heat.
  • At the peak of construction, around 12,000 workers were involved.

Merchants unlock their doors with glee, Anticipating the pre-Easter shopping spree. A bunny here, a chocolate egg there, Symbols of a society that doesn’t care. (anitpromoters.com)

A challenge! A rather daunting task.

If you had really wanted to be strong,
you would not have come from a woman’s womb.
For messiahs are quarried from mountains
where the sturdy and strong comes from stone.

Are you not sorry to have despoiled your land
by such limitations? I am weak, don’t you see;
Ionly had streams of milk or tears to offer,
and you were ever so much more than me.

So much ado when your birth to me was announced.
You could have been born fierce and wild from the start.
If you only needed tigers to tear you to pieces,
why did I learn gentleness as an art

by which I wove for you a soft, pure gown
without even the slightest seam
for comfort–: that’s how my life has been,
which you now have turned upside down.

Some of the pollutants that are most prevalent in the manure, sewage and chemical fertilizers are Nitrates and phosphates. (anitpromoters.com)

Water pollution

The main causes of water pollution are fertilizers and nutrient pollution. Some of the pollutants that are most prevalent in the manure, sewage and chemical fertilizers are Nitrates and phosphates. These pollutants run into the streams and rivers causing excessive growth in aquatic plants and algae leading to clogged waterways and dead zones.

Another cause of water pollution happens when oil, gasoline and additives gets spilled due to a leak in a major oil tanker. This usually gets a lot of coverage and press due to its effects on marine animals, local fisherman and coastal businesses. Oils can also seep into the waterways through the groundwater as a result of a leak or small spill.

Main sources of water pollution can be
  • Agriculture
  • Industries
  • Sanitary wastes
  • Solid wastes
  • Natural reasons.

Urbanization: Rapid urbanization in the world during the recent decades has given rise to a number of environmental problems such as water supply, waste water generation and its collection, treatment and disposal. Many towns and cities which came up on the banks of rivers have not given a proper thought to the problems of waste water, sewerage etc. In urban areas, the waste water is let out untreated and causes large scale water pollution.

Industries: Most of the rivers and other sources of fresh water are polluted by industrial wastes or effluents. All these industrial wastes are toxic to life forms that consume this water. Thermal power plants, engineering industries, paper mills, steel plants, textile industries and sugar industries are the major contributors of waste water production.

Agricultural runoff and improper agricultural practices: Traces of fertilizers and pesticides are wasted into the nearest water bodies at the onset of the monsoons or whenever there are heavy showers. Intensive and ever increasing usage of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals cause water pollution. Flood-plain cultivation is another significant contributor to water pollution.

Religious and social practices: Religious faiths and social practices also add to pollution of river waters. Carcasses of cattle and other animals are disposed in the rivers. Dead bodies are cremated on the river banks. Partially burnt bodies are also flung into the river. These practices pollute the river water and adversely affect the water quality. Mass bathing in the river during religious festival is another environmentally harmful practice.

Plastic bags are also very dangerous and further add to the pollution load to the river water.

Jaundice is common in new born babies. It is the key sign of many disorders of the liver and gall bladder. It can develop suddenly or gradually.

Causes
Jaundice may occur when the flow of bile from the liver, through the biliary system to the intestine, is blocked. The bile stagnates in the liver, which in turn means that the yellow pigment bilirubin, flows back in to circulation.
Obstrtuctive Jaundice: Is caused by gallstones. It usually happens when the bile ducts are blocked and bile cannot pass into the intestines.
Haemolytic Jundice: Occurs when too much bilirubin is produced by the breakdown of red blood cells.

Liver damage, as a result of hepatitis or chronic malaria may also contribute to jaundice. Alcoholism and poisons are rare causes. Jaundice is very common in healthy newborn babies, because of an immature liver.

Signs & Symptoms
The very first sign of jaundice are yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, darkened urine and some times pale stools. The skin may become itchy before occurrence. The symptoms are exterme weakness, sudden loss of appetite, nausea and dull pain in the liver region.

Herbal Medicines
Sugarcane juice: This is one home remedy effective in the treatment of jaundice. Plenty of this juice can be given to the patient, to promote more urination as well as for nutrition and general health.
Barley water: This can be given, if the patient is diabetic, since sugarcane juice is contraindicated in such people. This also causes more urination.
Triphala powder: A mixture of Amla, Harada and Behada can be given duly making a decoction. 20gms of powder, added to a glass of water, is reduced to 14 quantity. This should be filtered and given twice a day.
20ml of expressed juice of fresh neem leaves and 20ml of pure honey should be well mixed, and to this mixture is added 3gms of black pepper powder and stirred well. This should be taken in two equal doses, in the morning and evening. It makes a good home remedy for jaundice.

Ayurvedic Remedies
  • 'Jaundex' syrup in the dose of 10ml thrice a day along with one tablet of "Nirocil", in many instances, clears the jaundice within one week. This should be used under a doctor's surveillance preferably.
  • Punarnava Mandoor, 1 tab thice daily for 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Navrayas Loh can also be given in the dose of 125mg thrice daily.
  • Liv 52 tablet (Himalaya Drugs) is a very popular drug, given in the dose of 1 to 2 tablets thrice daily.
  • Livpar tablet (Gufic) is also very good in controlling jaundice in the above doses.

Real estate brokerages abide by laws that require disclosure when listing properties and assurance that the title to the property is free of encumbrances and liens. (anitpromoters.com)

If you decide to buy property privately without the help of a real estate agent, you need to understand how the process works. In this concise, but informative, buyer’s guide, we explain each step of the way to reaching your dream – to put you on the right track and hopefully make you realize that buying real estate privately is neither very different from using an agent, nor as complicated as it may seem.

  • Work out the price bracket you can afford
  • Find out which areas you are interested in
  • Search for properties in your areas of interest
  • Schedule viewing appointments with the property owners
  • Get an independent evaluation of the property (optional)
  • Negotiate the price and terms of the sale
  • Meet the seller at a notary to conclude the sale
  • Register the property with the Land Registry
  • Transfer utilities to your name

Finally, you will also have to agree with the seller to visit the various utility companies to transfer the water supply, electricity and other services into your name.

The Buying Process
Once the property has been chosen, the two main steps of the buying process are usually:
  •      The execution of a commitment agreement
