People Who Changed the World

There are countless people who changed the world, so I figured break them into categories. My criteria is simple, those who have the biggest positive impact. My knowledge and perceptions are influenced by western thought. However, you are free to write your own list here.

Jesus Christ - Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity and undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in the development of western society.

Thomas Jefferson - Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13 1743, to July 4 1826 to a materially prosperous family. He father Peter Jefferson was a land and slave owner in Virginia.

Mikhail Gorbachev – Mikhail Gorbachev was general secretary of the Soviet Union Communist Party from 1985-1991. He was also the first democratically elected President in 1990.

Martin Luther King Jr. - Greatly influenced by Thoreau and Gandhi for the non-violent movement. I couldn't imagine life before his influence.

Nelson Mandela - He was a prisoner in South Africa and became the first black president in South Africa. Who would've thought a person sent wrongfully to prison could be a president. He's one of the most oppressed people who changed the world.

Lord Buddha - The founder of Buddhism. Lord Buddha was a prince, who forsook the comforts of a palace to seek enlightenment. He realized the essential unreality of the world, in the bliss of nirvana and spent the remainder of his life teaching others how to escape the endless cycle of birth and death.

Winston Churchill - Outgunned, out manned he persevered against the Nazi war machine. Any person taking a stand against all odds has my handshake.

William Shakespeare - English poet and play writer who had more influence the English language than any other. Known for writing tragedies such as King Lear, Hamlet and Macbeth.

Adolf Hitler – Adolf Hitler has become infamous as a personification of human evil. His name is inexorably linked to the Holocaust and extermination of Jews and other 'undesirables'. He is also seen as the principle cause of the Second World War in which over 70 million people died.

Abraham Lincoln - A president who fought to give the country heart. One of the most influential people that helped abolished slavery.

"Our lives improve only when we take chances... and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves."
